History: Your City

The City of Leander is truly a wonderful place to live.  Our tight knit community is extremely fortunate; with the continued downward turn in the national economy, we here in Leander, and the State of Texas for that matter were not hit as hard as some parts of the country.   We have in our Leander toolbox the right and necessary tools to insure continued forward momentum.  Development opportunities present themselves weekly.  Scott & White’s arrival was our first announcement of the year, breaking ground on a new clinic and the acquisition of the Sandy Creek Water Treatment Plant (the “WTP”) from the LCRA was another major milestone for our city.  With the acquisition of the WTP, we are now firmly seated in control of our future.
2011 also brought in the drought of record for our region.  A phrase commonly used around our region was “Stage 2 drought conditions”.  With the lack of significant rainfall, we all had to learn to conserve.   We also had to deal with loss, our City Manager Biff Johnson passed unexpectedly. We were all saddened that Biff was taken from us and we all miss him very much.  A new door opened for us with the arrival of one of 109 applicants being chosen to manage our city; your new city manager Kent Cagle was chosen unanimously by your city council to lead our city into the future.  With Kent’s arrival, a new sense of direction has been established.  We all look forward to working closely with Kent in the years to come.
Our partnership with the Cities of Round Rock and Cedar Park through the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority also moved rapidly through 2011.  Savings to date for the three (3) cities has surpassed 35 million dollars on infrastructure costs to date.  A slow and sluggish economy will sometimes produce exceptional results; this is one of those times.  Various stages of roadway improvements this year include Crystal Falls Parkway East Phase 2B, San Gabriel Parkway East, Hero Way, and Lakeline Blvd from Crystal Falls Parkway to 2243.  New arrivals to our city included Firestone, Mattress Made Easy, Sew Something, Gorgeous Nails, Little Caesar’s  Pizza, Sterling Classical School, Superior Shine Car Wash, Two Saints Baking Company and Café, Jiffy Lube, Village Cleaners as well as two (2) Chiropractic Clinics; Arrow Chiropractic Clinic and Kapsner Chiropractic Centers just to name a few.
With Lakeline Blvd. going through to 2243 from Crystal Falls Parkway, Randall’s grocery store and additional retail development will be occurring especially near that intersection in 2012.  I am looking forward to making a awesome ribbon cutting on that development in the very near future.
Your Civic Leadership and your Greater Leander Chamber of Commerce continues to work with the business community on policies and programs that enhance Leander’s competitive advantage.  Our future as a city looks very stable and very bright.  In 2012, you will see moderate growth as municipal services will continue to be delivered in a professional, courteous and efficient manner.  All necessary components are in place to insure a progressive and profitable future!
